Germany Industrial production in January 2025 showed positive growth, driven by strong performance across several sectors. The automotive industry led the charge, with a seasonally and calendar-adjusted increase of 6.4% over the previous month. Additionally, notable increases in the food industry (+7.5%) and machine maintenance and assembly (+15.6%) contributed positively to the overall results. However, the production of metal products saw a decline of 7.7%, which had a negative impact on the total figures.
Overall, industrial production (excluding energy and construction) rose by 2.6% in January 2025 compared to December 2024, adjusted for seasonality and the calendar. The production of advance goods showed the most significant increase, up by 3.3%, while capital goods and consumer goods each saw a 2.4% rise. On the other hand, energy generation fell by 0.5%, and construction production experienced a slight increase of 0.4%.
When comparing January 2025 to the same month in 2024, industrial production was down by 1.7%, adjusted for the calendar.
In a positive turn, energy-intensive industries saw a boost in production. In January 2025, production in these industries increased by 3.4% compared to December 2024, adjusted for seasonality and the calendar. Over a three-month period, from November 2024 to January 2025, production in energy-intensive industries remained stable, with no change from the previous quarter. Year-over-year, compared to January 2024, production in these industries was up by 2.1%, adjusted for the calendar.
The growth in energy-intensive industries and capital goods production suggests resilience in key areas, while the small dip in energy generation and construction production reflects some challenges. Although industrial output fell slightly compared to January 2024, the continued growth in specific sectors offers an optimistic outlook for the year ahead.
